Debt investors typically receive regular cash payments tied to an interest rate or total return. The payment terms would be specified in the investment contract. Equity investors in a private company typically need the company to go public or get acquired before they receive any payment. As with many investments, however, there is no guarantee that investors will receive any return or payment.
